Heavenly Lodging in Seward Alaska

Seward Alaska City Map

This is a photograph of the Seward Alaska map in our copy of The Milepost, a driving travel guide for Alaska.  It shows the town of Seward, and in the bottom left hand corner indicates the turn you make to get to Lowell Point, a small peninsula three miles south of the town of Seward, which is where our Angels Rest on Resurrerction Bay waterfront cabins and rooms are located.  The guide is named after the tradition of referring to an address in Alaska by its "milepost #"  (e.g. mile 42 of the Seward Highway), since there were no street numbers. Now, with mandated 911 services, most places in Alaska have more traditional addresses, including house numbers. Mapping and GPS software will be incorrect however! Be sure to give yourself time to experience the best heavenly relaxation in our very special cabins and rooms just south of Seward, Alaska, on the shores of Resurrection Bay, on the Kenai Peninsula, with spectacular wildlife and scenery surrounding them.

Seward Alaska is a charming small town with a year round population of approximately 500, while the greater Seward area has a total year round population of about 3,000.  In the summer with seasonal residents, workers and tourists this number can swell to approximately 5,000.

The Seward Highway becomes 3rd Avenue at  Van Buren, and the speed limit becomes 25MPH.

The historic downtown area is generally located one block east, on 4th Avenue, between Railway Avenue to the south and Jefferson to the north.  Most shops & restaurants are located on 4th Avenue, which connects the Downtown district with the Small Boat Harbor. Check out the historic walking tour mentioned on our Things To Do Page.

The Small Boat Harbor, on 4th Avenue, north of Downtown, between Van Buren and Port Avenue, is the departure point for most boat tours and fishing charters, and home to mostly seasonal restaurants and gift shops.  There are also a few year round businesses in the small boat harbor.

North of town, beyond what is pictured on the map, is the turn west toExit Glacier, part of the Kenai Fjords National Park.  The drive to the glacier is about 10 miles, then another 1/2 mile walk to the face of the glacier.

Seward is home to Mount Marathon, a mountain known the world around for its famous 4th of July foot race.  See our listing under seasonal activities on our Activities (Things To Do) Page.

Seward itself is a charming town with two distinct areas of enjoyment.  Downtown Seward offers a number of special businesses.  The Seward Small Boat Harbor is a delightful place to walk around on a nice day (with an ice cream cone from the Harbor Creamery, if you like!), and the Alaska SeaLife Center and Seward Museum, or any of several coffee shops, are perfect places to spend a rainy afternoon.
