Angels Rest on Resurrection Bay

Heavenly Lodging in Seward Alaska

Alaska's Visitor Seasons ~ What to Expect ~ Alaska has several distinct visitor seasons. The most popular time to visit the Seward, Alaska area are the months of June, July and August; often referred to as Summer or Peak Season.  Alaska is a huge state; seasons may start and end much earlier in northern regions. There are often Shoulder Seasons for portions of May and September. You'll find reduced rates on things such as lodging during those periods; but not all visitor services and activities may be available.  The Off-Season, generally October through April will provide travelers with a much quieter experience of our great state. Not as many services will be available, but the quiet pace is perfect if you're looking to really relax and commune with Mother Nature! No matter what the season, be sure to give yourself time to experience some heavenly relaxation in these very special cabins just south of Seward, Alaska, on the shores of Resurrection Bay, on the Kenai Peninsula, with spectacular wildlife and scenery surrounding them.

Summer Season

During the months of October through April you'll experience shorter days, lots of wildlife, great hiking, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing, depending on the weather and trail conditions, and amazing photo opportunities, including northern lights, and stunning sunrises & sunsets.

Temperatures will generally vary from the 40-50s to the 20sF (this winter has been extremely cold, with many days in the 5-10s).  It can be extremely windy and depending on the month, it may rain or snow.  Resurrection Bay is an ice-free port and the Seward Highway remains open year round and is well maintained, however icy conditions can be the norm in winter. Rental cars with studded tires are recommended, as are ice cleats.

Seward is a charming town year round and has many wonderful shops and restaurants that stay open year round, in addition to the Alaska SeaLife Center and the Seward Museum. Depending on the specific time of year, there are boat tours of the Bay, and/or whale watching tours available (weather permitting).

If you want to experience Alaska as we Alaskans do, it's the best season to visit; October and April can be quite mild and very enjoyable. Between November and March, as you can see by reading the Guest Books, most travelers are Alaskans. We do get a few travelers from the "lower 49." Those who brave it, love it.

During our shoulder seasons, which are May 1-14 and Sept 15 -30, you'll experience long days of sunlight (longer days in May), lots of wildlife, great hiking and amazing photo opportunities. Fishing and boat tours  are also available (weather permitting).

Temperatures will generally range from the 50s to the high 30sF. It may rain; and in May there may still be snow on the ground in some areas.

There will be fewer tour & fishing options to choose from, and some shops and restaurants may be closed.

If you want to experience Alaska, and take advantage of most tourist offerings but avoid the "crowds" the shoulder seasons are the perfect time to visit. Many Alaskans travel during these seasons.

During the summer season Mid-May to Mid-September, you'll experience extremely long days of sunlight, lots and lots of flowers (later in summer is best), lots of wildlife, great hiking, amazing photo opportunities, and a long, long list of available activities including: dog sledding, flight-seeing, sea kayaking, glacier viewing, Kenai Fjords National Park boat tours, fishing, and hiking.

Since these are the most popular months amongst travelers, you'll also experience more fellow travelers than during the other seasons.

Temperatures will range generally range from the 70s to the 40sF.  It may rain.
